The Newfoundland is a large long haired dog that was originally used for fishing and for dragging wood in the cold Canadian province of Newfoundland. Its true history is unknown, and there are a variety of speculations including that the Newfoundland is actually related to its nearby neighbor, the Labrador, and other opinions that the Newfoundland was brought over by the Vikings. The Newfoundland is a great family dog that is very friendly with both children and guests.
