The St. Bernard is the dog frequently shown in the movies where someone needs to be rescued in the snow; they are the ones with the little barrel of brandy around their neck. Serving for over 1000 years to assist in snow rescue in the Swiss Alps, the St. Bernard is able to locate trapped people under feet of snow, through impressive sound detection and scent tracking. The St. Bernard is a very calm and patient pet and is very considerate of small children.
