Yorkshire Terrier: Index

The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the most popular dogs, primarily because it is used as a lapdog. Bred down from larger Terrier stock in northern England, the Yorkshire Terrier was developed for a specific task, to eliminate the rodent problem that was springing up around early Industrial Revolution mills. They are great with children and make great watchdogs, but they need to be treated like a dog. The Yorkshire Terrier needs firm boundaries and firm leadership, otherwise it will easily develop the detrimental Small Dog Syndrome.
